First Blood – W’adrhun Faction Spotlight

Thunderous footfalls and booming howls herald the incoming warpath of the W’adrhŭn. Guttural chants and primal roars syncopate the clamour of battle, the ensuing carnage a rhythmic cacophony of bloodshed and adrenaline. Stone-hewn weapons cleave flesh and armor alike, weapons almost as fearsome as the massive genetically-bred warriors that wield them. The W’adrhŭn take to battle with unmatched vigor and ferocity; and also dinosaurs!

The W’adrhŭn are made for combat; their bodies are augmented with a variety of adaptations that culminate in the formidable warriors of the W’adrhŭn. Having to claw their independence through ceaseless war and strife, the resilient peoples of the W’adrhŭn were formed into a strong and noble culture. As such, W’adrhŭn Warriors in Conquest: First Blood all possess the Teachings of the Wasteland Army Rule:

Teachings of the Wasteland: Enemies need an additional assisting Warrior to Outnumber a W’adrhŭn Warrior.

This ability allows warriors of the W’adrhŭn to hold their own against several enemies at once, using their stature, experience, and ferocity to even the odds.

In Conquest: First Blood, the W’adrhŭn play as a true Warband of aggression and coordinated activations. Knowing when and where your Warriors take the fight to the enemy is the key of utilizing the W’adrhŭn’s powerful Rhythm of Battle Army Rule:

Rhythm of Battle: Whenever a W’adrhŭn Warrior Slays an Enemy, immediately gain Chant Markers corresponding to the Slain Enemy’s Battlefield Role. All Chant Markers are lost at the End of the Round.

  • [Infantry]: 1 Chant Marker
  • [Brute] or [Cavalry]: 3 Chant Markers
  • [Monster]: 6 Chant Markers

During Friendly W’adrhŭn Warrior’s Clash Actions, you may spend Chant Markers to Re-Roll Attacks. Re-Roll a single Attack for each Chant Marker spent.

Chant Markers are earned through combat but are lost at the end of the Round, so knowing when to save them and when to use them is the key to mastering the tempo of the W’adrhŭn playstyle. Cult Warriors additionally earn Chant Markers in their own way; such as the Chosen of Conquest, who earn a Chant Marker whenever they Charge.

There are a variety of other abilities found within the faction that also interact with Chant Markers, such as the Scion of War’s special rule War’s Anvil to bolster the defensive capabilities of your Warriors:

War’s Anvil: When a Friendly Warrior within Command Range Rolls to Block, you may spend a Chant Marker to Re-Roll a single Block Result.

The W’adrhŭn are able to communicate with great primal beasts, bonding with them (as anyone would do if we could talk to dinosaurs!) and riding them into battle. Let’s take a look at the pinnacle of such beasts, the apex if you will, with the ferocious feathered friend that we know as the Apex Predator.

The Apex Predator possesses a mighty mix of Special Rules befitting of its namesake; Cleave 3, Fiend Hunter, Deadly Blades, and Terrifying. Woe betide enemy monsters within chomping range! Being Carniverous, the Apex Predator also gains the Flurry Special Rule when targeting a Wounded Enemy. The Apex Predator can also unleash a Bloodcurdling Roar as an Action, forcing nearby Enemies to test their Resolve or become Broken! Should this tyrant defeat an Enemy Monster, the Apex Predator triumphantly performs this roar for free! Furthermore, you may choose to field an Apex Master to ride this mighty beast into battle representing either a Predator or Matriarch Queen who then gains further Special Rules and Command Abilities.
