Hello Conquest fans, this is Blue Ginger AKA Joey from Para-Bellum Games.
As an avid Exiles fan, my interest in Conquest sparked with the artwork of the Spires fighting the Hundred Kingdoms and Spires monsters and drones hooked me. Today I wanted to share my Spires army and its color inspiration with you.
When I first started my Spires army I decided each subfaction would have its own paint scheme to identify them and give me a reason to play around with different color choices.

The Underspire:
These are my bread and butter. I’ve always been a sucker for sacrificial units and a “recycle”
playstyle of buffing, sacrificing and healing.
For The Underspire I imagined the deep dark undergrounds of spires to be a place of clinical
filth and chose a textured base to reflect the grime. For model colors I wanted to mix the
traditional blues with some heavy yellow contrast to reflect a mire of endless labor for these
drones.

The Directorate:
Those who get real work done. While the fancy Lineages party in their spires, The Directorate keeps the system moving, able-bodied and progressing through experimentation.
For The Directorate I defaulted to my favorite faction in the video game “Destiny; The Hive”. A simple and fitting theme of boney beiges, deep reds for fleshcraft and some soft green glow effects to emphasize the biological enhancements built into this slightly less expendable fodder.

The Sovereign Lineage:
Fashionably lethal. While the upper echelon of the Spires do not sully themselves with the grim of Biomancy and Phermantic workings they do enjoy the thrill of battle on their own terms.
For The Sovereign Lineages I went out of my comfort zone to play with colors I don’t usually choose. The concept is antiqued porcelain so the whites have sepia contrast washes and a glossy varnish. Purple was used as a purposefully flamboyant color in addition to pearls and gems for the Avatara to show off their wealth.
Balancing the army colors between rigid uniformity and bold colors that animals use as natural warnings of their dangerous nature; it just felt Spires to me.
Over time my color range expanded and with units that work for multiple subfactions, the line between them became less defined when it came to colors. But in the end my Spires are a 7 year journal, documenting my practice and evolution in hobby experience and I’m happy to keep it that way. Everything is always a work in progress and there’s always the next army.
Don’t be afraid to try something new, bold, or outside your comfort zone.
