First Blood – Old Dominion Faction Spotlight

From the ruins of the Old Dominion a power stirs deep within. Magic and unbending faith have turned the twisted souls that still reside within its crumbled walls bent to their god’s will. Fanatics, disciples, legions of undead soldiers, and even the hallowed statuary themselves that adorn the Dominion’s most sacred sites all take to the battlefield in service of their god of undeath.

All denizens that survive in the remains of the Old Dominion share a similar fervid fortitude. All Warriors of the Old Dominion automatically pass any Resolve Test on the result of a ‘1’, allowing them to even test their Resolve while Broken! through their Hazlia’s Shadow Army Rule.

Hazlia’s Shadow: Warriors of the Old Dominion always pass Resolve Tests on a ‘1’, regardless of modifiers or being Broken. Warriors may always test Resolve; if Broken they may only ever pass on a ‘1’.

Wherever Warbands of the Old Dominion walk, a swell of God-given Magic surrounds them, growing in power as Hazlia’s followers are cut down. During each Command Phase, the Old Dominion player generates Dark Power for each Slain Friendly Warrior. Each Warrior generates Dark Power corresponding to which Battlefield Role they possess.

  • [Legions]: 1 Dark Power
  • [Final Creed]: 2 Dark Power
  • [Fallen Pantheon]: 3 Dark Power

Dark Power can be spent to empower Friendly Warriors when they are Activated through their Memory of Old, a Draw Event whose effect is based on the Warrior being Activated. Each eligible Warrior will have their Memory of Old listed in their profile, their effect varies vastly across your force. Memories of Old unlock the true potential of your Warriors, granting some sort of unnatural utility such as that of the Moroi or rouses the wrath of your dark Warriors such as the Varangian Guard against the Enemy’s most imposing Warriors.

Moroi: 2 Dark Power – This Warrior may be Placed anywhere wholly within Command Range.

Varangian Guard: 2 Dark Power – During this Warrior’s Clash Action against a [Brute] or [Monster], Hits that are not Blocked inflict an additional Wound.

To master your muster of Old Dominion, players must properly utilize their Dark Power. As it fully replenishes each Round, Do not hoard it!

Memories of Old are not the only way to spend Dark Power, the Archimandrite can transmute Dark Power into Essence to cast Spells. The Dark Cenotaph can open the Sarcophagus that they carry to unleash Death and Despair unto their Enemies. Don’t look directly at it!

If Power is truly what you savor most, look no further than the Fallen Divinity. The single most imposing and expensive Warrior in all of First Blood! When fielding a Fallen Divinity, Dark Power becomes its lifeblood. The Fallen Divinity swells with power as it consumes the shadowy magics of their loyal subjects. When generating Dark Power, if the Dark Power pool is large enough, the Fallen Divinity ascends- Healing all wounds suffered and upgrading their profile for the remainder of the battle. However, all this power comes at a price; as the Fallen Divinity achieves the higher tiers of ascension it becomes harder to sustain as part of their Render unto Hazlia Special Rule.

Render unto Hazlia: Whenever the Fallen Divinity would be Slain, you must spend X Dark Power equal to its current Tier. If the Fallen Divinity suffers Wounds in excess of its Wound Characteristic, it must additionally spend X Dark Power for each Wound suffered beyond the first. If there is insufficient Dark Power, the Fallen Divinity is vanquished and their form dissipates from the Battlefield.

So what say you… Will you serve Hazlia? Or are you to follow in Cleon’s path, sought after the Old Dominion’s destruction? No matter your disposition towards this dastardly deity, the Old Dominion are here to wreak havoc across Eä to reclaim what was once rightfully theirs. Until we meet again, Muster your Warband and draw First Blood!
