Emerging from the depths of their holds clad in thick metal armor and wielding an array of spikey, bladed, and flaming weapons, the redoubtable Dweghom march to war. The Dweghom take a not-so-subtle approach to warfare, annihilating their enemies by cleaving them in half with fearsome swords and axes or by incinerating them with primordial sorcerous power.
After freeing War from its prison and overthrowing their Dragon overlords, the Dweghom are no strangers to battle. Being that their entire society is predicated on war, you could say that the Dweghom thrive in it! In the new version of First Blood, this is represented by the Dweghom’s Children of War army special rule:
Children of War: Whenever a Dweghom Warrior would be Driven Back, they are only
Moved until there is 1” between both Warriors. Additionally, Dweghom Warriors automatically pass the Resolve Test when performing the Combat Rally Action. A Dweghom Warrior that is Driven Back still remains within Engagement Range with the Enemy!
This ability means that Dweghom warriors are never pushed out of combat, which is exactly where Dweghom want to be! The other part of this ability means that even when a Dweghom warrior is on the backfoot by being Broken, they always get to come back swinging; having automatically passed the Combat Rally test!
Aghm is above all. The hierarchy of the Dweghom is determined by the accrual of Aghm, which is the culmination of heroic deeds, personal honor, and battlefield prowess. Ever in pursuit of Aghm, Dweghom Characters in First Blood may Duel Enemy Characters in the middle of the Round as a Draw Event with the Pursuit of Aghm army special rule. This allows Dweghom Characters the flexibility of utilising other Command Abilities while still being able to Duel Enemies later on in the Round.
While on the topic of Dweghom Characters and Duels, no other Character quite exemplifies this as much as the Exemplar! During the Command Phase, the Exemplar can brace Warriors around him with his Unbreakable Command Ability to stop the impact of charging enemies:
Unbreakable: Friendly [Infantry] Warriors within
Command Rage gain the Bastion Special Rule.
The Exemplar can then follow this up by calling a Duel with the Pursuit of Aghm Draw Event Special Rule, where the Exemplar gains the Blessed Special Rule as part of his Dheukorro Champion Special Rule.
Dragonslayers are as formidable as their name implies, clad in Dragonfire resistant armor and hefting massive bladed polearms. Boasting a truly impressive statline including 2 Wounds and possessing both the Cleave 3 and Fiend Hunter Special Rules, Dragonslayers are the most elite Warriors a Dweghom Warband can field.
Taking the Dweghom’s raw sorcerous power and imbuing a colossal stonewrought monster with said primordial power yields the awesome might that is the Stoneforged. The Stoneforged is the naturally toughest Monster in the game with a Defense of 5 until Injured. Akin to a living mountain, the Stoneforged is an absolute avalanche on the battlefield. Such innate durability comes at a cost of speed, which is surely made up for when including the Stoneforged’s Conduit Colossus Special Rule:
Conduit Colossus: Other Friendly
[Tempered Spellcaster]s within Command Range gain
the Spellcaster +1 Special Rule. Enemy [Spellcaster]s within
Command Range suffer -1 to their Spellcaster Special Rule.
Empowering nearby Spellcasters while inhibiting enemy Spellcasters is quite a useful ability, especially when fielding a Tempered centric force.
The Dweghom may all have received War’s blessing, but they are divided on how to wield it. As such, the Dweghom are fractured into three distinct sects with their own unique approach to warfare. Be it the primordial power of the Tempered, the martial zeal of the Ardent, or the stalwart might of the Clans, Dweghom players may choose to field one of these paths on their own or to form a unified Warband combining all three.
